Roots Ends Partnership with USOC
Roots and the United States Olympic Committee have decided to end their partnership to outfit the United States Olympic and Paralympic teams for the upcoming 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Roots began outfitting the U.S. Olympic Team in 2002 at the Salt Lake City Winter Games. Roots also designed the apparel for the U.S. Teams at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, and the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
Roots created the most commercially successful Olympic apparel in the history of the Olympic Games in 2002, when more than one million of the Roots Team USA berets were sold.
In a press release issued by Roots, they said: “The Roots move away from the Olympic stage is in keeping with a decision by Co-Founders Michael Budman and Don Green to continue to direct Roots support of athletes to a more grassroots program and to work with local fitness, yoga and sports instructors on a local level.”
